Research Interests:

Over the past 15 years I have built world-leading expertise in the design, evaluation, and use of dental curing lights. My optics laboratory houses a FT-IR spectrometer, capable of real time monitoring of resin polymerization, an automated hardness tester, laser beam profilers, fiberoptic spectrometers and power meters. I have worked with most of the global dental manufacturers assisting them to evaluate and study their new curing lights, materials and provide consulting advice. I am an inventor on a patent application filed by Dalhousie University for MARC™ (a device which measures the light energy delivered to simulated restorations). Currently I am investigating the longevity of posterior resin composite restorations, the light output from dental curing lights in dental offices, the existence of any 'blue-light' hazard, the benefits of fast vs. slow curing of dental restorations.
